In 1967, Paul McCartney admitted to taking LSD four times during an interview with Life Magazine . He told The Daily Mirror that he didn't regret that he'd spoken out and hoped that his fans would understand . McCartney first started using drugs in the early 60's, when he and the Beatles took the drug preludin to maintain their energy level during the crazy days in Hamburg,Germany !! Bob Dylan was the man responsible for introducing Paul to marijuana in a New York hotel room in 1964 and McCartney became a habitual user of the drug, often smoking on the way to the studio during the filming of "Help" !! Apparently the line "another kind of mind" in the song "Got to Get You into My Life" is reference to his use of marijuana !! During the recording of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and for about a year total he used cocaine but stopped because of the depression and hopelessness he felt after coming down !! McCartney tried LSD for the first time in late 1966 and took his second "acid trip" in March 1967, with John Lennon, after a Sgt. Pepper studio session !! He became the first Beatle to publicly admit to using LSD and in discussing LSD, he said "It opened my eyes ... made me a better, more honest, more tolerant member of society." McCartney has also spoken out about decriminalizing marijuana saying it is no worse than any alcohol that is legal !!
