This day in HISTOROCK !!
Oct 26 , 1970 a wake was held at Lion's Share in San Anselmo, California to celebrate the life of Janis Joplin !! Joplin died Oct 4 , 1970 just 16 days after another rock legend Jimi Hendrix had died and both at the age of 27 . Joplin died of an overdose of heroin as did other people who had purchsed from the same dealer . It is believed that Joplin and others were given uncut heroin by accident which was much more potent, thus resulting in an overdose .
In her will she left $2,500 to throw a wake party in the event of her death . The party was attended by her sister Laura , fiance Seth Morgan and many close friends . Brownies laced with hash were passed around without anyone's knowledge :-) Janis would have loved that . Janis was cremated in Los Angeles and her ashes were flown and scattered in the Pacific Ocean and along Stinson Beach .
Losing Hendrix and Janis Joplin so close together in the same year was devastating to a lot of music fans . Janis had a voice with such incredible range and was an electric stage performer !! So today is not a sad day , but a day to celebrate the life of the "Queen of Psychedelic Soul" Some of her biggest hits were : Me and Bobby McGee , Kozmic Blues , Piece Of My Heart , Down On Me and of course Mercedes Benz !! So sit back and have a drink or maybe a brownie ;-) RIP my "QUEEN" !!
