This day in HISTOROCK !! Alice Cooper !!

        This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 1972, Alice Cooper, whose birth name is Vincent Damon Furnier,  was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'School's Out'. The singers only UK No.1, which was also a No.7 hit on the US chart. This song has gone on to become a classic hard rock anthem !! Cooper has said he was inspired to write the song when answering the question, "What's the greatest three minutes of your life?". Cooper said: "One is Christmas morning, when you're just getting ready to open the presents. The next one is the last three minutes of the last day of school when you're sitting there and it's like a slow fuse burning". I said, ''If we can catch that three minutes in a song, it's going to be so big.'' !! Who can forget the lines : "No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers' dirty looks" On his radio show, "Nights with Alice Cooper", he joked that the main riff of the song was inspired by a Miles Davis song, but admitted that guitarist Glen Buxton, was the one who created the song's opening riff !! School's Out  also marked the first time that Alice Cooper became regarded as more than just a theatrical novelty act. He started to become respected for the music, not just the stage show. Speaking of the stage show, you will never see a better show !! Going to an Alice Cooper show is like seeing a hard rock musical horror movie live !! Monsters, spiders, demented nurses and of course guillotines & nooses !! I have seen Alice 3 times and had the pleasure of meeting him 2 times !! He is such a genuine person who makes you feel like you've known him all your life :-) Me and my bud Sheldon felt like Garth & Wayne : We're not worthy !! Cooper followed School's Out with the release of classics like Billion Dollar Babies, Easy Action, Welcome To My Nightmare and more !! Alice also recorded He's Back for the soundtrack to Friday 13th Part VI Jason Lives. The song was kind of a dance song and Alice said he didn't play it live because it was too disco lol !! Alice Cooper still records and tours to this day, still using the theatrical element in his shows that they said wouldn't last !! The ultimate honor was bestowed upon Alice Cooper in 2011, when inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame !! The old man still knows how to ROCK !! Here is video from the UK show Top Of The Pops 1972.  Enjoy :-) School's Out forever !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
Trike :-)
