This day in HISTOROCK !! Cub Koda !!

       This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 2000, Michael "Cub" Koda, one of the founding members of Brownsville Station died of complications from kidney failure. He co-wrote with Mike Lutz, the 2 million selling 1974 hit 'Smokin' In The Boys Room', (which Motley Crue covered). He took his nickname from Cubby on television's Mickey Mouse Club !!  They released their 1st album in 1970, but it was the 1973 single"Smoking In The Boys Room" that got them noticed !! It became their biggest and best known song, although some of today's youth, may know the song, but couldn't tell you who Brownsville Station is !! The band played together until they broke up in 1979, but have reformed with founding member Mike Lutz and former member Henry Weck and have a new album called "Still Smokin" https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/still-smokin/id550114275 . If you liked Brownsville Station before, this album is well worth a listen !! Koda kept performing and producing and released his last album "Noise Monkeys" in 2000 . It was while promoting this new album he became ill with kidney disease . Although he was recovering and on dialysis, Koda died the next day at the age of 51 !! A lot of people may not know who Cub Koda was, but I bet they all know "Smoking In The Boys Room" !! Here is the classic version from "Midnight Special 1974" with "Cub" on guitar/vocals !! RIP Cub Koda !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
Trike :-)
