This day in HISTOROCK !! Cream !!

        This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 1966, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton formed Cream !! The three piece group only lasted 2 years, leaving behind some classic songs including ‘Sunshine of Your Love,’ ‘Badge,’ ‘Strange Brew,’ and ‘White Room.’ !! It all started in 1966 when Clapton met Ginger Baker, after having left John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Baker was the drummer with the Graham Bond Organisation at the time, but was looking for a change. They decided to form a new band, which brings us to the story about how Jack Bruce became a member. It's quite funny :-) Clapton knew Bruce from his brief stint in the Bluesbreakers and was a big fan. Bruce had also played with Baker in  the Graham Bond Organisation and during their time in the band, the two had become quite notorious for their constant arguing !! They even went so far as to sabotage each others instruments and this led to Baker's firing of Bruce from the band. The story goes, Bruce continued to show up for shows until being threatened by Baker with a knife !! So when Clapton suggested that they form a new band only on the condition that Bruce be the bassist/vocalist, Baker who was driving almost went off the road !! Baker & Bruce managed to put the past behind them and Cream was born !! They were called "The Cream" in the beginning, before dropping "The", and becoming just "Cream" with their first album release. They lasted only 2 years, but also gave us other classics like 'Strange Brew', 'Born Under A Bad sign' & 'Crossroads' and had an incredible impact on the world of music !! They were the "Ultimate" blues/rock band !! They released 4 albums : Fresh Cream (1966), Disraeli Gears (1967), Wheels of Fire (1968)**Goodbye (1969). They toured relentlessly during their 2 years and even though they had put aside their differences, tension still ensued between Baker & Bruce and Cream decided to break up in May 1968 and performed for the last time on Nov 25,26 in London,UK !! While they all continue to play, Eric Clapton is the only one who has achieved major star status , although they were all equally an integral part of Cream !! Cream was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, in 2006 received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and have reunited at different times over the years !! Here is video from the 2005 Royal Albert Hall show !!  We've all been in a 'White Room' !!
** World's 1st platinum selling double album !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
Trike :-)
