This day in HISTOROCK !!
In 1967, The KFRC Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival took place !! It was held June 10 and 11th, 1967, at Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, California and is widely considered to be the 1st outdoor rock festival in America, if not the whole world and was held the week before Monterey !! Admission was *$2.00* and all proceeds were donated to the Hunters Point Child Care Center in San Francisco . The show was originally scheduled for June 3 and 4 as a benefit for the center, but was postponed for 1 week by bad weather. A lot of the bands booked for the original dates were unable to perform the following week due to other commitments . Some of the bands that performed were : Canned Heat, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Steve Miller, The 5th Dimension and a long list of other bands, some recognizable, some not !! The show was held at the 4,000 seat Sidney B. Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre in Marin County, California . At least 36,000 people attended the two-day concert during the "Summer of Love" !! The crowd was very well behaved with no rowdiness and placing trash in or next to garbage cans and leaving the venue intact and the way they found it !!
