This day in HISTOROCK !! Keith Moon !!

       This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 1967, enjoying a wild birthday party Keith Moon drummer for The Who drove his Lincoln  into a Holiday Inn swimming pool. The party had gotten out of control and the police were called to put an end to the party. Moon, who always tried to avoid the boys in blue, snuck outside and got into the Lincoln  and tried to get away. Unfortunately, in his inebriated state he released the handbrake, and began rolling towards the pool. So Keith, figuring there is nothing he can do,  just sits back and waits lol. The car crashes through the fence around the pool and into the water !! When Moon came to the surface, he was greeted by a police sergeant holding a gun, but even then Moon tried to run. There had been speculation that this story was just that, a story, but Roger Daltrey put an end to the rumors when he said in an interview  "It flaming well did happen, we got the $50,000 bill for it and Keith could have gone to jail for three years."
Moon was a crazy man, with his manic, lunatic side, and his life of excessive drinking, partying, and other indulgences. He probably represented the youthful, zany side of rock & roll, as well as its self-destructive side, better than anyone else on the planet !! While on tour with The Who, Keith used to enjoy flushing Cherry bombs down toilets and this practice of blowing up toilets with explosives led him to be banned from several hotel chains around the world for life, including all Holiday Inn, Sheraton, and Hilton hotels !! Moon was an incredible drummer who played with a raw emotional passion and wild abandon that sometimes culminated with the destruction of his drum kit !! Its been said that Keith Moon was to the drums what Jimi Hendrix was to the guitar – a complete original !! Moon's kit was the biggest in rock at one time, boasting at least 10 tom-toms, twin bass drums, twin timpani, snare, half-a-dozen cymbals and a gong !! Keith Moon died on Sept 7,1978 from an overdose of Heminevrin, a prescription drug used to combat alcoholism. He received a 100 tablets and the post-mortem confirmed there were 32 tablets in his system, 26 of which were undissolved !! Moon died at the very young age of 32, dying the way he had lived : Wild & Reckless !! RIP Wild Man !! Check out this video of the classic Who song "Won't Get Fooled Again" with some incredible Moon drum work !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
Trike :-)
