This day in HISTOROCK !! Frank Zappa !!

        This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 1991, Frank Zappa took part at the concert 'Adieu Soviet Army', organized in Prague, as the farewell to the last soldiers of Soviet Red Army, leaving free Czechoslovakia (the Red Army had occupied Czechoslovakia since the Prague spring). This was probably Zappa's last rock appearance on the stage and it is recorded on the album Adieu C. A. (Soviet Army) !! The year before Zappa visited Czechoslovakia at the request of President Václav Havel(A lifelong Zappa fan), and was asked to serve as consultant for the government on trade, cultural matters and tourism !!  Zappa did not use illegal drugs, although he tried marijuana several times, it never provided him him with the high he was looking for . Zappa also never used any hard drugs and said, "Drugs do not become a problem until the person who uses the drugs does something to you, or does something that would affect your life that you don't want to have happen to you, like an airline pilot who crashes because he was full of drugs." Frank was a also a regular tobacco smoker for most of his life(as you can see in many pics) and strongly critical of anti-tobacco campaigns . Even though he was against drug use, he criticized the War on Drugs, comparing it to alcohol prohibition, and said that the United States Treasury would benefit from the decriminalization and regulation of drugs !! Describing his philosophical views, Zappa said "I believe that people have a right to decide their own destinies, people own themselves . I also believe that, in a democracy, government exists because people give it a 'temporary license to exist'—in exchange for a promise that it will behave itself. In a democracy, you own the government—it doesn't own you" !! Frank Zappa died on Saturday, December 4, 1993 in his home with his wife and children by his side . At a private ceremony the following day, Zappa was interred in an unmarked grave at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles . On Monday, December 6 his family publicly announced that "Composer Frank Zappa left for his final tour just before 6:00 pm on Saturday" RIP Frank !!  Check out this incredible video from those last shows !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
