This day in HISTOROCK !!

       This day in HISTOROCK !!

In 1967, The Doors "Light My Fire" was released in the US, where it went on to be No.1 on the singles chart two months later !!  When The Doors were booked to appear on "The Ed Sullivan Show" they were asked to change the line "girl, we couldn't get much higher", as the sponsors were uncomfortable with the possible reference to drug-taking ;-) The band agreed to do so, and did a rehearsal using the amended lyrics; however, during the live performance, lead singer Jim Morrison sang the original lyric, after which they were informed they would never appear on the Ed Sullivan show again !! Morrison was infamous for saying one thing and doing the other lol . Also back when the Doors were at their height in popularity , the anti-drug foundation 'Do It Now' asked their singer Jim Morrison to tape an anti-drug ad for their "Speed Kills" radio campaign !! I remeber this lol . Morrison kept changing things around on the producer of the segment , and here are a few of Morrriosons lines lol.
"Hey, how you guys out there doin'? This is your old buddy Jim Morrison. I sing with a group called the Doors. You might have heard of them. We done a few songs, but I never, never did a song on speed. Drunk? Hell yeahhh ..." !!
"Hello, this is Jim Morrison of the Doors, I just want to tell you that shooting speed ain't cool, so snort it"
"Hello, this is Jim Morrison. Don't shoot speed. Christ, you guys, smoke pot!"
They did finally manage to get it done !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!

Trike :-)
