                     In 1996 , Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan was rushed to Cedars Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles after an apparent drug overdose . This resulted in his heart stopping for two minutes until he was revived by paramedics !!  The singer was later arrested for possession of cocaine and heroin . He has survived many brushes with death, living up to the nickname, "The Cat", that paramedics gave him during his roughest years in LA !! In October 1993, Gahan suffered a small heart attack during a performance in New Orleans, leaving the band to improvise an encore without him . Doctors advised him to take a break from the tour, but he refused . Another brush came when he attempted suicide by slashing his wrists in August 1995 .  "It was definitely a suicide attempt", says Gahan, "but it was also a cry for help. I made sure there were people who might find me !! Also on May 28th 2009 , Dave Gahan had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his bladder. The band who were currently on a world tour cancelled several shows because of the 47-year-old's ongoing health problems. All in all Depeche Mode in particular Gahan have fought through all of this and still tour and record to this day !!
