The Jesus And Mary Chain

                         THIS DAY IN HISTOROCK !!

On this day in 1987, The Jesus And Mary Chain were banned from appearing on a US music TV show after complaints of blasphemy when the group's name was flashed across the screen. The CBS show asked the band to be called JAMC but the group didn't agree.
Their debut album Psychocandy fused together the Reids' two primary influences, the guitar noise of The Stooges and The Velvet Underground with The Beach Boys, The Shangri-Las and Phil Spector; In fact, the album's opening song, "Just Like Honey," borrows Hal Blaine's famous drum intro from The Ronettes 1963 classic, "Be My Baby", produced and co-written by Spector. The record received unanimously positive reviews and is now considered a landmark recording
The Jesus And Mary Chain sound has been described as fuzz or noise pop !! They were once described as the "Kings of Feedback" !! Yes the name and the music  shocked a lot of people back then  , but by today's standards The Jesus And Mary Chain name or sound is no more a shock !! The genius and music of Jim and William Reid will go down in "HISTOROCK" as ground breaking and trail blazing !!

Keep on ROCKIN !!
Trike :-)
